South Coast Repertory
Position: Artistic Director
South Coast Repertory, Orange County California’s Tony Award winning regional theatre, has begun a search for its next Artistic Director. The Board of Trustees intends to engage the successful candidate no later than Summer 2018.
Today, in its 54th season, South Coast Rep stands on three strong pillars --- artistic vision, a dynamic audience and exemplary community leadership. Its vision, audience and leaders have given SCR prominent national standing, serving not only as a vibrant theatre center for Orange County and Southern California, but as resource for the American theatre community through its development and production of new work.
South Coast Repertory was founded in the belief that theatre is an art form with a unique power to illuminate the human experience. For over five decades, it has committed itself to exploring the most urgent human and social issues of our time, and to merging literature, design, and performance in ways that test the bounds of theatre's artistic possibilities. SCR has always sought to advance the art of theatre in the service of its community, and it aims to extend that service through educational, intercultural, and outreach programs that harmonize with its artistic mission.
SCR's next Artistic Director will be an active artist/director, with demonstrated success in directing and producing new work, who will lead with a broad curatorial aesthetic that speaks to the diversity of its community. The search committee will look for evidence of professional relationships with a diverse network of significant theatre artists, particularly playwrights, and the ability to attract talented individuals to serve the theatre’s future goals.
In addition, S/he will have a clear vision, passion for and commitment to becoming a visible artistic leader within the company and a recognized civic leader throughtout the Orange County community.
